Sheep for Sale – Find Quality Breeding Stock and Lambs

Sheep farming is one of the oldest and most versatile branches of agriculture, providing meat, milk, wool and landscape management services. On Landwirt.com you can browse a wide selection of sheep for sale from experienced breeders, private farmers and livestock dealers across Europe. Whether you are building a new flock, introducing fresh genetics or purchasing lambs for fattening, our marketplace connects you with quality animals at fair prices.

Our sheep listings cover a wide range of breeds suited to different production goals and environments. Popular meat breeds include Suffolk, Texel, Charollais and Dorper, while East Friesian and Lacaune sheep are favoured for dairy production. Traditional wool and dual-purpose breeds such as Merino, Romney and mountain sheep breeds thrive in extensive grazing systems. For landscape conservation, hardy breeds like Heidschnucke, Scottish Blackface and various heritage breeds are ideal for maintaining grasslands and moorlands.

Each listing provides information about the breed, age, sex, health status and price. Reputable sellers include details about breeding history, flock health status and any testing for diseases such as scrapie genotyping. Use our search filters to find sheep by breed, location and price. If you also keep goats, browse that section alongside sheep listings to build a diversified grazing flock for your farm.

Which sheep breed is best for beginners?

For beginner sheep farmers, hardy and easy-care breeds are the best choice. Texel, Suffolk and Hampshire sheep are popular meat breeds with good growth rates and straightforward management. For smaller flocks and hobby farming, breeds like the Shropshire, Dorper or local heritage breeds are excellent as they tend to be robust, require minimal intervention at lambing and adapt well to various climates. Start with a small flock and expand as you gain experience in feeding, health management and breeding.

How much pasture do sheep need?

As a general guideline, one hectare of productive pasture can support approximately six to ten adult sheep, depending on grass quality, rainfall and soil fertility. Extensive or hill grazing may support fewer animals per hectare. Rotational grazing, where sheep are moved between paddocks, helps maintain pasture quality and reduces parasite burden. Ensure you have enough land for summer grazing and enough hay or silage reserves for winter feeding when grass growth slows or stops.

What health management do sheep need?

Essential sheep health management includes regular foot trimming and treatment for foot rot, a strategic deworming programme guided by faecal egg counts rather than routine blanket treatments, annual vaccinations against clostridial diseases and pasteurella, and monitoring for external parasites such as blowfly strike and lice. Ewes need additional attention around lambing time. Work with a veterinarian experienced in sheep health to establish a flock health plan tailored to your conditions.
