Goats for Sale – Find the Right Breed for Your Farm

Goat farming is a growing sector across Europe, driven by rising demand for goat milk, cheese and meat products. On Landwirt.com you can browse a wide selection of goats for sale from experienced breeders, private farmers and livestock dealers. Whether you are starting a dairy goat herd, raising meat goats or keeping a few goats as hobby animals, our marketplace helps you find healthy, quality stock at fair prices.

Our goat listings feature many popular breeds including Saanen, Boer, Alpine, Toggenburg, Cashmere and various cross-breeds suited to different climates and production goals. Saanen and Alpine goats are prized for their high milk yields, while Boer goats are the top choice for meat production. Hobby farmers often favour smaller breeds such as Nigerian Dwarf or Pygmy goats for their manageable size and friendly temperament.

Each listing provides details about the breed, age, sex, health status and price. Reputable breeders also share information about parentage, milk records and vaccination history. Use our search filters to find goats by breed, location and price. For more information about specific breeds, visit our dedicated pages for goat breeds including Boer, Saanen, Cashmere and other goat breeds.

Frequently asked questions about goats

Which goat breed is best for dairy farming?

The Saanen goat is widely considered the best dairy breed, producing up to 900 litres of milk per year with a relatively low butterfat content that is ideal for drinking milk. Alpine and Toggenburg goats are also excellent dairy breeds with strong milk yields. For cheese production, breeds with higher butterfat content such as the Nubian goat are preferred. The best choice depends on your climate, management system and the type of dairy products you plan to produce.

How much space do goats need?

As a general rule, each adult goat needs approximately 2 to 3 square metres of indoor housing space and at least 10 square metres of outdoor paddock or pasture. Goats are social animals and should always be kept in groups of at least two. Good fencing is essential as goats are excellent climbers and escape artists. Provide shelter from rain and wind, clean bedding, access to fresh water and browse or forage alongside their regular feed ration.

What should I check before buying goats?

Before purchasing goats, inspect the animals for signs of good health including bright eyes, clean nostrils, a glossy coat and alert behaviour. Check hooves for overgrowth or rot, and ask the seller about vaccination and deworming history. Request a veterinary health certificate if available. For breeding stock, ask about parentage, milk records and any CAE or CL testing. Start with a small group and quarantine new arrivals for at least two weeks before introducing them to your existing herd.
